The Oregon Mandolin Orchestra opens its eighth season this weekend with concerts in three cities in Oregon and southwest Washington:
- Friday, April 21, 7:30 p.m., Multnomah Arts Center, 7688 SW Capitol Hwy. in Portland
- Saturday, April 22, 7:30 p.m., Liberty Theatre, 1203 Commercial Street in Astoria, Oregon
- Sunday, April 23, 2 p.m., Old Liberty Theater, 115 N Main Avenue in Ridgefield, Washington
The 24-piece orchestra, conducted and directed by Brian Oberlin, Portland’s leading mandolist, is performing movements from Mozart’s Third and Fourth Violin Concertos and Hummel’s Mandolin Concerto, along with folk music from the Americas.
Special guest, Evan Marshall, will perform solos in the Mozart and Hummel Concertos. Marshall and Oberlin will also give a special performance as the Twin Mandolin Slingers duet, where they’ll play swing, bluegrass, and classical selections.
