Dress as your favorite medieval character and step back in time at the Arizona Renaissance Festival in Gold Canyon. The festival is a medieval amusement park, 13-stage theater, 30-acre circus, arts and crafts fair, jousting tournament, and feast combined.

The 2018 festival runs February 10 through April 1, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and President’s Day.

Watch jousters compete three times daily at the King’s Tournament Arena and Adam “Crack” Winrich’s Fire Whip Show. Winrich is a 23-time Guinness World Record holder for achievements like the loudest whip crack and the most candles extinguished with a whip in one minute.

Other entertainment includes live Renaissance music and dance, comedy, acrobats, jugglers, and an escape artist. Here’s the entire lineup.

Stuff yourself at the Pleasure Feast, a five-course meal complete with live entertainment. A vegetarian option is available (view the menu). The Pleasure Feast costs $73.95 per person (make reservations).

At the Festival Marketplace, more than 200 vendors sell handmade crafts and food. Also watch them work at their trades: glassblowing, leatherwork, weaving, woodcarving, blacksmithing, candlemaking, and pottery.

Challenge yourself at the skill-building games. Target shoot with a bow or crossbow, storm a castle during a paintball battle, climb a tall tower, throw a battle axe, or toss a tomato at an insulting peasant at Vegetable Justice. For those patrons in the mood for an extreme challenge you can test your physical mettle at the Climbing Tower or show your warrior side throwing a battle axe.

Use your energy for the human-powered rides like launching yourself into the air on the Assault Catapult or riding the world’s largest rocking horse.
