City Hall Plaza in Boston is not the usual place to pick up delicious pizza, but this weekend, July 13-14, is an exception. That’s when you’ll find 30 pizzerias, live entertainment, games and more at the annual Boston Pizza Festival.
Meet the artisans and savor their work. They’re coming from Boston and Lowell, Massachusetts; New Jersey; Washington, DC; as well as the motherland of pizza—Naples, Italy. And for those who are gluten-free or vegan, they have you covered.
Rumors have it that there will be some wild combos on the menu this year. How about trying a slice with these toppings?
- BBQ pulled pork, shredded jack and cheddar cheese, pickled onions, and bourbon-braised bacon with a smoked paprika aioli drizzle
- Sliced pears and gorgonzola cheese with honey sauce infused with chili peppers
- Nutella sauce topped with bananas
Also try the fried pizza from Naples and pizza cones from Lowell.
Beer and other beverages are available for sale. There’s also a covered seating area to enjoy your pizza and drinks away from the summer sun.
Hours for the general public are noon-7 p.m. both days. If you’re still inside when the doors close at 7 p.m., you can stay until 8 p.m. The last call for alcohol is at 7:30 p.m.
VIP ticket holders can enter early. Their ticket gives them free reign to eat as much pizza as they can from 11 a.m. until noon. After that, they pay for pizza. Slices start at $2 each during general admission hours.
General admission is $15 per person, ages 6 and older, and free for ages 5 and younger. VIP admission is $50 per person. Buy tickets at Eventbrite or at the entrance.
Discounted parking is available at:
- Government Center Garage, 50 New Sudbury Street, $12.50 all day, 0.2 miles away
- Center Plaza Garage, 1 Center Plaza (75 Somerset Street), $9 all day, 0.4 miles away
The closest T (subway) stop is at Government Center, which services the Blue Line and the Green Line trains B, C, D, and E. It’s a five-minute walk from the Government Center station to City Hall Plaza. Plan your trip here.
