Portlanders received sad news on The Country Cat’s Facebook page yesterday when they saw an announcement that the Stark Street location is closing on Sunday, August 4, after brunch. The announcement didn’t disclose any reasons for the closure.
This popular Southern style restaurant best known for its brunches opened in 2007 and has received many accolades since then. The Oregonian named it one of Portland’s best restaurants in 2016, one of Portland’s best “Southern” restaurants in 2018, and one of Portland’s best brunch spots in 2019. It was also featured in a “Meat Lover’s Paradise!” episode on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Although the Stark Street restaurant is closing, The Country Cat isn’t leaving Portland forever. Its airport location will continue operations a short walk past security at Concourse D/E. The drawback is that you have to go through security to get there.
