In late April and early May, the Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, Massachusetts, puts on a spectacular show of color. Usually by then, the winter has finally surrendered to spring, and the weather is perfect for a walk through the 17 distinct gardens.
The Worcester County Horticultural Society bought the Tower Hill Farm in 1986 to develop the 171-acre botanical garden. The society, which was incorporated in 1842, is the third oldest active horticultural society in the United States.
The garden is 49 miles west of Boston in Central Masssachusetts—about an hour’s drive when traffic is moving in the Boston metro area.
