I saw a report in the Boston Globe today that some restaurants in downtown Boston started adding a fee to food orders to cover the costs of supplies they need to keep customers and employees safe during the COVID outbreak. According to the Globe, the charges appear with names like “PPE fee” or “Safe & Sustainable fee” and range from three to five percent of the bill.
