The Walk Tacoma tours are back, but this year, they’re a bit different. They’re guided tours led by an expert, but instead of walking with them in person, you’ll carry them in the palm of your hand.
All of the tours this year is available on the GeoTourist app. Download and install this free app, launch it, and look for upcoming tours.
A new tour will be released the first Wednesday of the month, starting April 7. Each tour ranges from one to two miles. Here’s the list of 2021 tours:
- April 7, Tacoma Waterfront Walk
- May 5, Downtown Mural Walk
- June 9, Hilltop Coffee Walk
- July 7, Pride Walk
There are also walk activities for kids designed by the Children’s Museum of Tacoma:
Downtown on the Go, the host of the walking tours series, created Walking Wednesdays to “promote walking for transportation, health, and community well-being,” according to its walking webpage. The organization encourages businesses and individuals to set up their own walking activities every Wednesday to promote healthy lifestyles.
The tours are on the GeoTourist app this year due to COVID-19. Downtown on the Go plans to resume live tours when state restrictions are lifted.
The 2020 series of walking tours are now available on the GeoTourist app if you want to take them again:
- Tacoma’s Musical History Walk
- Puyallup Tribe Walk
- Stronger and Better Together Walk with the Tacoma Urban League
Downtown on the Go is hosting these tours with the help of series sponsor MultiCare and series partner Greentrike.
