The annual Air Guitar World Championships attract visitors from around the world to Oulu, Finland, every year. But with the ongoing COVID pandemic and travel restrictions, the organizers decided to postpone the competition until 2022.

Despite the delay, “Air guitar will nevertheless be present in August in Oulu,” a statement reads on the organization’s website. “Planning has started and the content will be shared during the summer.”

The Air Guitar World Championships began in 1996 to promote world peace. “According to the ideology of the competition, wars would end, climate change stop and all bad things disappear, if all the people in the world played the Air Guitar. This is why the whole universe is invited to play the Air Guitar for the world peace at the end of the competition.”
