Several towns throughout Wisconsin are hosting free ice fishing classes during the state’s Free Fishing Weekend January 21-22.
Saturday, January 21
- Chippewa Falls, noon-4 p.m. at Glen Loch, 8140 136th Access from the Ojibwa Golf & Bowl.
- Rhinelander, 1-3 p.m. at Perch Lake Park, eight miles west of town
- Baraboo, 1-4 p.m., at Devil’s Lake State Park. Meet at Rock Elm Shelter on the north shore of Devil’s Lake.
Sunday, January 22
Waukesha County, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Ottawa Lake Campground, S59 W36530 County Road ZZ, between Eagle and Dousman.
Ice fishing gear is available at the above events.
On Free Fishing Weekend, state parks that usually charge an entry fee are free. A Wisconsin fishing license is still required, though. If you don’t have a fishing license, buy one here. Discounts are offered to Wisconsin residents and non-residents during the Free Fishing Weekend.

Wisconsin DNR holds two Free Fishing Weekends each year: the third weekend in January and the first weekend in June.
