With more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 11,000 inland lakes, and tens of thousands of miles of rivers, Michigan is a prime fishing destination. Each year for one weekend in the winter and summer, the state allows residents and non-residents to fish for all species of fish anywhere in the state for free. During these weekends, a fishing license is not required, but state fishing regulations still apply.
The 2017 weekends are February 18-19 and June 10-11.
Ten counties are hosting special events during the Winter Free Fishing Weekend: Bay, Benzie, Grand, Gratiot, Isabella, Leelanau, Mecosta, Montcalm, Tuscola, and Wexford. View event details by county.
