Today, the Queen Mary celebrates the 50th anniversary of arriving in Long Beach, California, with free ship admission after 3 p.m. and $5 ship tours. Also enjoy free live music from Swedish jazz vocalist and instrumentalist Gunhild Carling in the Grand Salon aboard ship, 5-7 p.m.

Carling is best known for playing three trumpets at the same time. Also a talented trombone and bagpipe player, she often combines all of her talents into one song, complete with a tap dance. Last year at the Queen Mary, she was featured in recordings of Scott Bradlee’s postmodern jukebox version of “Never Going to Give You Up” and a 1920’s jazz swing version of “Material Girl”.

Carling’s show is part of the Queen Mary’s Salon Series, a collection of films, concerts, and lectures.

The Queen Mary is docked at 1126 Queens Highway in Long Beach. Parking is available at the ship and is discounted to a flat rate of $10 after 3 p.m. For more information about the anniversary celebration, the Salon Series, and making hotel and dinner reservations, visit the Queen Mary’s website or call (877) 342-0738.
