An orange sleeping beauty in the Meowtropolitan cat lounge in Seattle

For feline fans who love coffee, the chalkboard sign on the sidewalk outside Meowtropolitan couldn’t describe the experience any better. “Cats + Coffee: Purrfect!”
At this coffee cafe and cat lounge in the Wallingford neighborhood, north of downtown Seattle, you can schedule 50-minute appointments to sip your favorite brew and hang out with 10 to 15 cats in the lounge.
Or join them for yoga.
Most of these cats are up for adoption from the Regional Animal Services of King County, so the time you spend with them helps socialize them. Since the cafe opened in December 2015, more than 250 cats have found homes.
Arrive 10 minutes early to sign in and order a cup of coffee or tea. While you wait to be called, watch the kitties from a large glass window on the coffee room side.
A lot can happen during a 50-minute visit. Here are some photos from one of my visits. The last time I was there, only one cat was a permanent resident. The others were ready for adoption. Currently, six cats are permanent residents.
Willow was the grand kitty at age 13. Willow had joint problems and preferred people watching but not people attention.
A view from on high…
This one is friendly.
This one isn’t in the mood for petting.
These two romped with each other on a wicker rocking chair during my entire visit.
What? Wow!
The ultimate relaxer…
This one still isn’t in the mood for petting.
A black cat watches the rompers…
while the ultimate relaxing continues.
Deep in thought…
This is the “I know you’re there, but I’m ignoring you” pose.
The friendly kitty falls asleep.
The black cat watching the rompers finds a shelf with a view for a catnap.
The ultimate relaxer is still sound asleep when my visit ends.
