Since 1929, residents of Peacock Lane in southeast Portland have decorated their homes and yards with hundreds of colored lights and elaborate holiday displays of Nativity scenes, snowmen and women, Santa in a sleigh, and Christmas villages. The tradition returned December 15 and ends New Year’s Eve. Many Portlanders consider Peacock Lane their favorite holiday activity, so it’s no wonder that these four blocks from SE Stark to SE Belmont Streets are known as Portland’s Christmas Street.

Peacock Lane closed to cars December 15-17 to allow easy access for pedestrians to view the displays. Because of the high traffic volumes, residents advise visitors to take public transit (view options) or a taxi. If you need to drive, look for on-street parking several blocks away (view directions).

December 18-31, the lane will be open to driver unless police impose closures for safety reasons. For the latest information, follow Peacock Lane’s Facebook or Twitter page.

Admission to Peacock Lane is free, and hours are 6-11 p.m. daily. Free apple cider and hot cocoa will be served at the cocoa booth December 15-24 from 6 p.m. until supplies are gone. Cash and food donations are accepted at the booth when it’s open, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Make-A-Wish Oregon.
