Pittock Mansion closed today due to icy conditions in Portland’s West Hills

Ice in the steep west hills of Portland prevented the Pittock Mansion from opening today. If conditions improve, the mansion will reopen tomorrow for its annual Christmas display. Check the Pittock Mansion’s website for updates.

Each year, from the Monday before Thanksgiving until New Year’s Eve, volunteers and professional designers decorate the mansion for the holidays. The themes are different every year. This year, it’s “A Very Portland Christmas”, which features well-known people, animals, places, and events like Powell’s Books, Packy the Asian Elephant from the Oregon Zoo (who unfortunately died in February), and Peacock Lane.

See my pictures from last year’s exhibit, “Symbols of the Season”, and discover the mansion’s history.

When weather conditions allow, the exhibit is open daily, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. Admission is $11 adults, $10 seniors 65 and older, $8 ages 6-18, and free for children under 6.

The Pittock Mansion is located at 3229 NW Pittock Drive in Portland (get directions). Parking is free.

For more information, visit the mansion’s exhibit page or call (503) 823-3623.
