Hear more than 100 poets, storytellers, and songwriters from the West and East Coast fishing communities at the 20th annual FisherPoets Gathering in Astoria, Oregon, this weekend. You’ll find them in Astoria’s pubs, restaurants, and galleries, where they read for each other and hundreds of fisherpoetry fans who come to hear the talented voices of deckhands and skippers, cannery workers and shipwrights, young greenhorns and old-timers, and strong women and good-looking men.
The performances are from 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, February 23-24.
Other events throughout the weekend include workshops on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, oral histories at the Story Circle, a series of honest commercial fishing films, fisherpoet films, visual art displays, and an open mic.
