That headline is not a misprint! Portland has a grand Mardi Gras celebration every year, hosted by the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus.
The celebration kicks off with a ball the Saturday before Fat Tuesday, followed by a free parade on the night of Fat Tuesday.
The parade starts tonight at 7 p.m. at the corner of North Albina Avenue and Humboldt Street, near Neil Kelly Company and Victoria Bar. From there, six bands playing joyful music, marchers, and other performers follow North Mississippi Avenue to Cook Street, near Ecliptic Brewing.
Dress in your most festive wear and join the second line behind the parade.
After the parade ends at 8 p.m., the 21-and-older crowd can enjoy refreshments and live Cajun Zydeco music at Mississippi Studios, 3939 North Mississippi Avenue. Admission is $5 per person, and ID is required.
