Enjoy movies from the comfort of your car in August and September at the Zidell Yards in Portland, Oregon. The series started on August 6 and continues Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights through September 27.
Movies range from Knives and Skin, about a young girl’s disappearance in the Midwest and its effect on teenagers and parents, to the hit 1980 musical Xanadu, starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.
The gates open at 8:30 p.m. At dusk, a short regional film plays before the feature film starts.
The audio will be broadcast through FM radio. I recommend using a transistor radio to prevent battery drain on your car.
Tickets are $35 per car; $45 for SUVs, trucks, and vans; and $55 for premium seating.
Food will not be sold at the drive-in, but you can purchase snack packs in advance for $15 each when you reserve your movie ticket. The Sweets & Treats Snack Pack from Sandra’s Goodies in Vancouver, Washington, includes two traditional popcorns, two brownies or Rice Krispies treats, and two bottles of water. The snack packs are delivered to your car after you arrive.
The Zidell Yards is located at 3030 South Moody Avenue in Portland. The entrance is at a driveway between the Tilikum Crossing Bridge and the Ross Island Bridge. When you turn east off South Moody Avenue toward the Willamette River, follow the signs. Then take a slight left on the gravel road to the Cinema Unbound Drive-In.
This event is sponsored by the Northwest Film Center and Portland Art Museum.
