2021 Newberg Camellia Festival a hybrid event

After a year’s hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemimc, the Newberg Camellia Festival returns with a combination of in-person and online events on Saturday, April 10. All in-person events will be held at the Chehalem Cultural Center.

Buy camellias and other plants for landscaping at the plant sale in the Grand Ballroom and Back Patio from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. You can also order plants online and pick them up.

Enter the 5K and 10K Camellia Run/Walk at the Forecourt. It’s coordinated by the Chehalem Parks and Recreation District (CPRD), and they’ll have staggered start times for small groups of runners to reduce the crowds. The proceeds from this event support CPRD youth sports.

Watch the Oregon Camellia Society’s 79th annual Bloom Show in the Parrish Gallery from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. This is the annual statewide camellia competition, where judges evaluate the blooms by size, color, form, and condition.

A variety of activities will be scheduled online as well. The activities haven’t been announced yet, but some hints on the festival’s website include selfie prompts and art projects.

For more information and to register for the run/walk, go to chehalemculturalcenter.org/camellia. More details about online plant ordering and virtual activities will be posted here closer to the festival.

The Chehalem Cultural Center is located at 415 East Sheridan in Newberg, Oregon.
